In the first place…

Although we are a reasonably normal company, we take a pretty unorthodox approach to employee/employer stuff. We think everybody should see themselves as "self-employed", that they work for themselves and their families, nobody else. We encourage everyone involved in the business to see themselves as a partner and to act accordingly, to expect a lot of their co-workers, and even more of themselves. Virtually all of us have our earnings based partially on our personal performance. We think everyone should earn what they're worth.

There are basically three types of people working for the company:

Graphic Artist Guys and Gals…

These are the folks who design our beautiful maps and our fabulous ads. These are the people that do the "Voodoo" stuff that the Head Map Guy - Andy - can't quite understand (or doesn't want to). They work on state of the art MAC systems using the most sophisticated software available. They are really great people who are creative, fun and professional.

Our artists work as employees with health and dental benefits available to them. They earn a fixed weekly salary plus share in a monthly bonus pool based on their collective performance.

Office Guys and Gals…

These are the people who handle the customer service stuff, the organizational stuff and the accounting stuff. In other words, they do the "stuff" nobody else has the willpower or the brainpower or the patience to do. They are the people that make it possible for everyone else to do their jobs well.

Our office people work as employees with health and dental benefits available to them. They earn a fixed weekly salary, and have annual performance and salary reviews.

Map Guys and Gals…

These are the people that are actually out in the field, actively putting our projects together, making contacts within the communities, figuring out the distribution channels and appropriate layouts, signing up the sponsors and advertisers, and ensuring that we create a map that will have real value and tangible benefit to the offices and locales that distribute them, the sponsors that pay for them and the people who ultimately wind up with a free Map Guys map in their hands.

This is one great job!

Our salespeople are independent contractors who we treat as partners in the business and encourage to act as entrepreneurs. They earn a very good living and all of their business expenses are covered by the company (other than communication and transportation). They dress comfortably and casually, yet are very professional by nature. They make their own schedules and create their own futures.
